My Values

Through understand I have about my life and its purpose there are times I catch glimpses of what the days ahead look like…
With the love I have for helping people I imagine my role in my profession as a Registered Nurse. I see myself in a leadership role, sharing my values and beliefs and striving to fulfill my role as a nurse. Through my education at Biola University I’ve had time to contemplate my values and beliefs. I’ve learned about leadership, how effective and influential a leader is when they know and communicate their values. With their knowledge of the values they hold dear they’re capable of behaving and working according to what they truly value. Through this authenticity one can become influential to others because of the witness they have regarding their loyalty to their values and beliefs.
I believe that it is essential to care for the whole individual – to care for their body, mind, soul and spirit. I’ve had the privilege and encountered the importance of providing “wholistic” care. Unmistakably the common spelling of the word is holistic, but I want to emphasize that when taking care of someone to the very spirit of the person then true healing occurs. I believe it is crucial to provide spiritual care to patients that are in my care.
I envision that I will have my own home care agency through which I will make clear that the company is a Faith-based organization. I would work together with the client and family to develop care plans for the clients and it would establish all the physical, psychosocial and spiritual goals. I would work together with the Home Care Aides to ensure they understood the importance of striving to assist the clients and their family members to seek to accomplish the goals. I would love to offer the Home Care Aides workshops and training that would bring understanding of the importance of implementing spiritual care in the workplace.
In my own experience I wasn’t fully alive until I received healing of my spirit. When I consider the spiritual emptiness I had in my life compared to once I received Christ Jesus as my Savior I realize that this was when I begin to experience wholeness. My faith has led me to be bold in my actions and take risks that on my own I would not have the perseverance to continue. I have worked hard to continue in my education that I would be able to accomplish the goals that are ingrained on my heart.
While I currently work as a Home Care Aide, I already see that importance of me providing my clients with active presence, healing touch and prayer. I’ve had the opportunity to pray with my clients and I’ve seen the power of God work beautifully in their hearts. It’s through my faith that I had the boldness to offer prayer to my clients and when they accepted prayer, they were sacred moments that I will hold dear to me.
How do you see your values impacting your life?
