My Call

We each have instances in our life when we realize, we have a purpose. When we are able to conceptualize that life is not meaningless. Years ago I realized that helping others brought a sense of purpose and joy to my life. When I’m helping others I become focused on another person, I’m able to see outside of myself and see the person that I’m helping. If I were able to spend the rest of my life helping others I know that I would be fulfilling my destiny.
Some might wonder if helping others would become exhausting, but I know that my strength and energy comes through denying myself. By following the calling that has been clearly experienced as I continue seeking situations of helping others I feel renewed and refreshed. Right now I’m able to experience helping others in the role that I work in however I hold the role of helping others in my day to day life with my family, friends, in church, and in my education. The reward of helping another person is fulfilling, seeing their smile, realizing their appreciation, or helping them without getting any recognition still ends up being the greatest reward.
I did not stumble across this understanding on my own. Through faith I was able to learn that denying myself was the only way that I could fully live and follow Christ Jesus. Jesus denied himself his whole life, unto death. He came and served according to the purpose that God sent Him to the earth, He denied Himself through which He was raised and now lives again in immense glory. The Lord set the example for my life to be a sacrifice.
There are many accounts in the Bible that have taught me how to live and walk with Christ. But two specific accounts have struck my heart to the core. The first being in the book of Mark chapter ten verse forty-five, it says “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Jesus who is the King and Lord, came to earth and served others. He could have come and expected people to serve Him but rather He set the example to people in how to live in a life of service. I believe that I am filled with the desire to help other and believe that I’m called to serve others and to give my life to serve others.
The second is the account of the woman who washes Jesus’ feet with her tears, wipes them with her hair, and anoints him with perfume in Luke chapter seven verses thirty-six to fifty, it gives an example of a woman who realizes the Jesus is the Savior of the World and comes to show her love and gratitude for the amazing blessing that He has given her life. Jesus gives us all new life through His forgiveness of our sins. Jesus gives the example of two people have debt, one has a larger debt than the other, both people are unable to pay for the debt and banker forgives the debt of both people – he asks who is the one to likely love the banker more and show more gratitude, it’s evident that the person with the larger debt would be more grateful that the person with the smaller debt.
My realization of being forgiven a great debt, one that I could never repay has filled my heart with gratitude and love. These verses display the amazing grace and love of Jesus, He redeemed and He have given me freedom. He gave me a wonderful gift and the response that comes out of my heart is to love Him and follow the direction that He leads me for the rest of my life. The direction He leads me is to help others, to serve others.
I have had these revelations about my purpose, but what gives you understanding about your purpose?
